New Cassel adjoins the Village Of Westbury and is part of the Greater Westbury area. The community is in the Town Of North Hempstead .


GEOGRAPHY

New Cassel is located at 40°45'38" North, 73°34'0" West (40.760693, -73.566739).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 3.8 Km&2 (1.5 Mi&2 ). 3.8 km&2 (1.5 mi&2) of it is land and none of the area is covered with water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census of 2000, there were 13,298 people, 2,972 households, and 2,448 families residing in the CDP. The Population Density was 3,492.8/km&2 (9,072.8/mi&2). There were 3,067 housing units at an average density of 805.6/km&2 (2,092.5/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 31.64% White , 47.32% African American , 0.45% Native American , 1.41% Asian , 0.05% Pacific Islander , 12.59% from Other Races , and 6.55% from two or more races. 41.11% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 2,972 households out of which 40.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.2% were Married Couples living together, 22.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 17.6% were non-families. 12.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 4.46 and the average family size was 4.40.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 28.9% under the age of 18, 12.3% from 18 to 24, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 17.6% from 45 to 64, and 8.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 30 years. For every 100 females there were 99.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.1 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $55,428, and the median income for a family was $55,042. Males had a median income of $22,526 versus $28,193 for females. The Per Capita Income for the CDP was $15,673. 14.8% of the population and 10.5% of families were below the Poverty Line . 19.5% of those under the age of 18 and 13.7% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
