Maya first appeared in the episode "
Downloaded ". She is a young woman who lost a child during a
Cylon attack on the fleet. President
Laura Roslin and
Admiral Adama give Maya custody of
Hera , the half-human/half-Cylon infant given birth to by the Cylon prisoner
Sharon "Boomer" Valerii and fathered by
Karl "Helo" Agathon , although Boomer, Helo and the rest of the fleet are told that Cylon child died due to breathing complications. The child's death was faked by
Dr. Cottle and Maya likewise, was only told that the child was an officer's baby, and has no knowledge that the she is half-Cylon.
One year after settling
New Caprica , Maya works with Roslin, who lost her Presidency to
Gaius Baltar and has returned to education.
