A linguist is a person who studies Linguistics . Ambiguously, the word is sometimes also used to refer to a Polyglot , or a Grammarian , but these two uses of the word are distinct. The word ''linguistician'' is also used by some people to refer to one who studies linguistics, in order to avoid this ambiguity, although this word is rare, and generally disliked by linguists.
The following is a list of linguists. See Modern Linguists for those whose work follows the program of structural linguists.
