Information About

Ghost Town

Ghost Town was a number 1 hit for the British Ska band, The Specials .

The song was written during the 1980s by the founder member, Jerry Dammers , whilst Margaret Thatcher was Prime Minister , in response to Thatcher's policies which had caused large scale Unemployment in much of Britain . This was highly relevant to The Specials as they formed and lived in Coventry and saw the effects of the policies first hand.

The song spent three weeks at number 1 and ten weeks in the Top 40 of the UK Singles Chart overall. It was banned from airplay at the time, but it is now played on TV and radio.
