In 2000 , Birch became the first leader of an LGBT organization to address a national Political Convention when she gave a prime-time speech at the Democratic National Convention . Birch is a 1980 graduate of the University Of Hawaii and received her JD from the University Of Santa Clara School Of Law . She is partnered with Hilary Rosen , former chief executive of the RIAA .
