The Margrave of Brandenburg was one of the seven Electors of the Holy Roman Empire created by the Golden Bull Of 1356 . The Margrave of Brandenburg held the ceremonial title of '''Arch-Chamberlain''' of the Empire. From 1417 on, the title was vested in the House Of Hohenzollern . From 1618 , the electors also held the title of Duke Of Prussia , and in 1701 , they became Kings In Prussia . The title of Elector of Brandenburg stopped being used after the dissolution of the Empire in 1806 . The margraviate itself dated to 1136, having previously been known as the North Mark.
