a method of Music Production whereby studio instruments, especially bass guitars, can be plugged directly into a mixing console for a better, more present signal and sound. This is as opposed to miking up a bass amplifier. This techinque was developed by Paul McCartney in 1967 during the recording of " Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band ".
