HISTORY In 1954 , the building was built by Lawrence Simpson (with plaster and block work by Paul Barton and assistance from Hank Freese). The building's intended purpose was to be an ice cream store called Kreem King. Cutler Oil Co. then owned the building in 1955 , however there is no evidence that this building was ever used as a Gas Station . Four years later, in 1959 , Harold and Wilhma Barnhill purchased Kreem King and renamed it Dairy Hill (taken from the last portion of their Surname ). From 1959 to 1969 Dairy Hill was passed from owner to owner ( 1961 Charles and Helen Gordon, 1966 Gary Perkins, 1967 returned to the Barnhills). Then, in 1969 , Lawrence and Clara Belle Burgess bought the Dairy Hill. Ten years later, in 1979 , their daughter and her husband, Ruben and Shirley Droscha, purchased Dairy Hill. They are the current owners. Dairy Hill has been a part of Mason's history since 1959 and continues to be a part of the community, serving an average of 300 to 400 customers per day. COMPETITION Despite the fact there are many other Soft Serve ice cream stores or places that sell Soft Serve (such as McDonalds and other locally owned businesses), Dairy Hill has managed to survive and continue serving the community.
