''California's Gold'' is a PBS travel program that explores the numerous natural, cultural and historical wonders of the Golden State . The show, now in its 13th year, is produced and hosted by Huell Howser . The minimal production allows the locations, and people, to remain the focal point of the program. Howser, a cherubic and rather fit gentleman, is an amiable and easily amused interviewer. After more than a decade of interviewing fidgeting park rangers Howser continues to entone a certain boyish enthusiasm for the show's locations and topics. The show's theme song varies between several renditions of " California, Here I Come ". Included among the hundreds of California destinations visited by Huell on ''California's Gold'' are Julian , known for its delicious apple pies and cider, and the Danish village of Solvang .
