Baldwin is a Town located in Chemung County , New York , USA . As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 853. The name is that of a pioneer family. The Town of Baldwin is east of Elmira , New York. HISTORY The Town of Baldwin was founded in 1856 from part of the Town Of Chemung . GEOGRAPHY According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 66.7 Km&2 (25.8 Mi&2 ). 66.7 km&2 (25.8 mi&2) of it is land and 0.04% is water.hello hello DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 853 people, 334 households, and 254 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 12.8/km&2 (33.1/mi&2). There were 362 housing units at an average density of 5.4/km&2 (14.1/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.30% White , 0.82% African American , 0.47% Native American , 0.23% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.00% from Other Races , and 1.17% from two or more races. 0.23% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 334 households out of which 27.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 62.9% were Married Couples living together, 7.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 23.7% were non-families. 20.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 7.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 2.89. In the town the population was spread out with 23.4% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 29.2% from 25 to 44, 28.0% from 45 to 64, and 12.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 109.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 97.3 males.
