Yumi Ishiyama is a character from the French Animated Television Series '' Code Lyoko ''. DESCRIPTION Yumi is the oldest member of the group, being one year older than the rest of them; her age gives her the title of the "mature" one of the group, who looks after the younger members of the team, especially Jeremie . She is 14 years old, 5.41' tall, and weighs 110.2 pounds. On Earth, she wears a black turtleneck sweater that has long sleeves and exposes her navel. Her hair is usually left hanging down. She also wears black pants, and a pair of boots. When she and Odd switch bodies, Odd comes to school wearing a different outfit consisting of black pants, a green sweater-vest with an orange shirt underneath, fingerless mesh gloves, and a fur cap with cat ears on top. Odd claims to have gotten the clothes from her closet. In Lyoko , she has an outfit somewhat modeled after the outfit worn by a Geisha ; more specifically, an oiran. It comes with a short-sleeved/hemmed kimono over red tights, black Thigh-length Boots , red eye liner, red blush on her cheeks, a white-painted face and neck, and some red on her lips to complete the look. Her hair is bunched up into a small bun and the rest is left hanging down. Three bangs are also also left hanging. Yumi's Lyoko ID card shows a stylized impression of a leafy flowering plant; more specifically, a Sakura , a Japanese cherry blossom. DISCUSSION Although sometimes a bit short-tempered, Yumi is very clever. She deals with a few personal conflicts, most notably the fact that her parents have been known to have a somewhat unstable relationship, which makes her sad. She also makes important decisions in the heat of things. In Lyoko , she is usually the one giving orders, though Odd tends to share this responsibility on occasion. She also uses this authority in the real world. The best example of this would be in the second season episode "Cold War", when she commands Thomas Vincent to take Herve and Sissi out of the snowstorm and back inside Kadic . Yumi also seems to have a few mutual feelings for Ulrich , though both are reluctant to admit anything to the other. This reluctance ends up causing incidents that strain their relationship, such as Ulrich's friendship with Emily . They always work their issues out, though they never admit to anything. In the episode "Routine", however, Yumi and Ulrich almost kiss in the Desert sector after Ulrich saves Yumi from falling into the Digital Void , but a Return Trip occurs just before they are able to do so. Afterwards, they decide not to tell anyone about it, and the same reluctance persists in later episodes. When William shows up in the second season, their feelings for each other are again thrown into doubt. Several episodes have both Ulrich and William competing for her affection. Yumi is still more interested in Ulrich, though. In the episode "The Key", it seems as if Ulrich is about to admit his feelings to her, but a phone call from Jeremie prevents him from saying anything. Yumi tends to receive the brunt of Xana's abuse, having been trapped by him twice, replaced with a fake version of herself by Xana another time, and has even been robbed of her digital genetic code by the Scyphozoa , preventing her Rematerialization until Aelita extracted the information from Xana's data in Carthage . She is also the only one of the group that has fallen into the digital void ("Cruel Dilema"), and nearly fell in again on two occasions after that. In the first season, one week of episodes had Yumi attacked almost exclusively ("Cruel Dilema" to "The Girl of the Dreams"). The week has since been dubbed "Pick on Yumi Week." Yumi comes from Japan , but speaks perfect English. Her father is said to have come from Tokyo . It was never stated explicitly where her mother came from, but it is hinted that they came from Kyoto in the episode "The Chips Are Down". Because she is from Japan, Yumi is very proud of her homeland and its culture, as seen in the episode "The Girl of the Dreams", and she gets very touchy about her being confused for a Chinese girl. Yumi's name might originate from Yumi (?, ??) which is the Japanese term for Bows used in the practice of Kyudo (??, Japanese archery). The yumi is exceptionally tall (standing over two meters), surpassing the height of the archer. Yumi is the tallest member of the group. Yumi's name translates from Japanese as "beauty of the stone mountain." Ishiyama might originate from the Ishiyama Honganji , which was the primary Buddhist cathedral-fortress of the Ikko-ikki , mobs of warrior monks and peasants who opposed Samurai rule in Feudal Japan. SKILLS Like Ulrich, Yumi knows Pencak Silat and practices with him on occasion. She is also a capable Gymnast . On Lyoko, she uses these skills to perform multiple Handsprings and other feats of agility. To defend herself in Lyoko, Yumi uses two Tessen Fans that unfold into razor sharp, Frisbee -like discs. She can throw them to slice them in half, after which they return to her hand. Few things will stop the fans with the exception of the landscape or well-placed laser blasts. The fans also double as shields that absorb and deflect any laser blast. This has never been tested against a Megatank . They can do this regardless of whether or not Yumi is holding them, as seen in the episode "Common Interest". The fans are light pink with a flower pattern on them. As a secondary ability, Yumi is telekinetic on Lyoko, allowing her to move any object with her mind. Currently, it's been shown to work on almost any object. It hasn't been tested on monsters directly, however. The ability takes no life points to use, but Yumi has to concentrate intently on what she wishes to move, limiting her mobility. The size and/or number of objecs directly affects just how much she has to concentrate. At the most, she can walk or toss a fan at a nearby enemy, though not very effectively. Using the ability for an extended period of time will drain her energy, leaving her unable to move for a short period. Yumi uses the Overwing, a hovering Scooter developed by Jeremie to enable faster travel while in Lyoko . It's capable of flight. TRIVIA
