Winnipesaukee River




The Winnipesaukee River runs from Silver Lake, in Belmont, New Hampshire to Franklin, New Hampshire , where it joins the Pemigewasset River to form the Merrimack River 115 miles from the Atlantic Ocean . The Winnipesaukeee headwaters can be traced back through Silver Lake to Winnisquam Lake, and through a narrow channel to Opechee Bay and Paugus Bay on the western edge of Lake Winnipesaukee . The total drainage area of the river is approximately 488 square miles.

The river has a drop of up to 90 feet per mile and the rapids can be very challenging for sport boaters who put in at Cross Mill Bridge and take out at the bridge of U.S. Highway 3 in Franklin.
