RING ROAD

The city of Calgary has had it's eye on building a piece of the proposed ring road through the land owned by the Tsuu T'ina reserve land. The Glenmore Resevoir, which is one of Calgary's sources of drinking water, is a major cause of traffic problems. The ring road, which would connect from approximately the Sarcee Trail/Glenmore Trail intersection all the way to Highway 22x in the south. This ring road would cut across the corner of the reserve bordering the resevoir.

The Nation is interested in building a casino on their land and the government may grant permission to do so in return for an agreement to sell the land to the government. Another source of opposition comes from the environmental community which doesn't want to see a major road built through the land which is viewed as a valuable and fragile ecosystem. There have been discussions on and off regarding beginning this construction since the early 1990s and it seems all but inevitable that it will eventually be built. It may be just a matter of time until the need is great enough.
