Torrevieja

Torrevieja is a seaside city and Municipality located in the Province Of Alicante , in the southern region of Valencia (autonomous Community) , Spain , about 30 miles south of the city of Alicante and has a population of 84,348 ( 2005 ). It was originally a fishing village but in recent years has hugely expanded due to the Tourist industry. This includes both a strong contingent of German s, British and Scandinavia ns, many of whom are there all the year round, and Spanish tourists who have a second holiday home in the city. In 2004 Torrevieja had the largest number of British residents of any Spanish municipality (approx. 10,000). City is located between the sea and two big salt lakes, which give Torrevieja a healthy Micro Climate .

A world-famous Habanera festival for choral groups is held every year. In August the city population expands roughly ten fold, as do many of the places along this coast.
