is a
Constituency represented in the
House Of Commons of the
Parliament Of The United Kingdom .
It is located in the west of the county of
Kent in south eastern
England and includes the area of
Tonbridge And Malling Borough Council as well as parts of
Sevenoaks District which were incorporated in
1997 . Towns include
Tonbridge ,
Edenbridge and
West Malling .
Following their review of parliamentary representation in Kent, the
Boundary Commission For England has made major changes to the existing constituency boundaries as a consequence of population changes across the county. Tonbridge and Malling constituency has not been so severely affected, with the following electoral wards used in the formation of the modified seat;
- Borough Green and Long Mill, Cage Green, Castle, Downs, East Malling, East Peckham and Golden Green, Hadlow, Mereworth and West Peckham, Higham, Hildenborough, Ightham, Judd, Kings Hill, Medway, Trench, Vauxhall, Wateringbury, West Malling and Leybourne and Wrotham from the borough of Tonbridge and Malling
- Cowden and Hever, Edenbridge North and East, Edenbridge South and West, Leigh and Chiddingstone Causeway, Penshurst, and Fordcombe and Chiddingstone from the Sevenoaks district
Tonbridge and Malling is a traditional
Conservative seat characterised by a large commuter population although significant light engineering, farming and local service industry sectors are also represented. It has good road and rail links with London and low unemployment.
Local concerns include the poor results gained by local
Hospital s in recent government surveys and the
Bypass provision and other transport issues.
Famous features include the
River Medway which crosses the constituency,
Hever Castle ,
Oast House s and the
Weald en forests.
