  • Alberta Premier Ralph Klein 's PC Party has proposed a Third Way to deliver health care. It is supposed to be a mixture of the US-style system, in which people pay for health care, and Canadian-style health care, where all people are guaranteed free basic health (though it is not really free due to taxes). This Third Way is supposed to get rid of the long line-ups of the current systems, and enable those who wish to pay to receive quicker treatment, without damaging the existing public health care system. Many critics believe the Third Way will lead only to US-style health care, and they imply that the rich will get health care and the poor will get none. The Klein government announced on April 20, 2006 that it would not continue with the planned third-way reforms, after indicating that Albertans did not want the reforms at present.
