Like CSICOP and the James Randi Educational Foundation , the Skeptics Society investigates extraordinary claims. Unlike CSICOP, it does not limit itself to potentially pseudoscientific claims, but also investigates such controversies as Holocaust Revisionism and Conspiracy Theories , as well as controversies involving Protoscience s or at the leading edge of established science. A primary activity of the Skeptics Society is the publication of ''Skeptic'' magazine. ''Skeptic'' is a 112-page quarterly science education and science advocacy magazine available by subscription or on major newsstands in the U.S. and Canada. ''Skeptic'' often presents two or more contrasting articles offering differing opinions on a featured topic, invited debate-style papers, and extensive rebuttals. It also features a large "Forum" section for extended academic debate across issues, and a kids' science section called '' Junior Skeptic ''. The group also sponsors a lecture series at Caltech , sells books about science and skepticism, hosts an awards ceremony and scientific conferences, holds social events, provides the media with information on controversial claims from a skeptical viewpoint, and maintains a website. The Skeptics Society was originally founded as a Los Angeles-area skeptical group to replace the defunct Southern California Skeptics. After the success of its magazine, introduced in Spring 1992, it became a national, then international, organization. There are like-minded organizations in many other countries, including:-
