In January 2000 bin Attash attended the 2000 Al Qaeda Summit , wherein he met with two of the September 11, 2001 hijackers. Bin Attash claimed to be in Malaysia to take delivery of a prosthesis (his leg had been amputated below the knee following an injury in the Afghan-Soviet War). In October 2000 bin Attash was identified as the mastermind behind the USS Cole Bombing which took place in Aden , Yemen . Bin Attash was captured by U.S. forces in May 2003 in Karachi , Pakistan . |
