Tadcaster is a Town in North Yorkshire , England , lying on the River Wharfe and the Great North Road . It was founded by the Romans , who named it ''Calcaria''.

The town although once home to four Breweries is currently home to three, Coors , John Smith and Samuel Smith . The fourth stood on the site of the present central carpark.

The Latin word for a camp is ''castra'' which indicates that the Roman army may once have been based here. Tadcaster is the home of the Motte of a Castle .
