Shima (志摩国; -no kuni) or '''Shishu''' (志州 ''shishū'') was a Province of Japan which consisted of a peninsula in the southeastern part of modern Mie Prefecture . Part of the Tokaido , Shima bordered Ise Province , and was the smallest of the provinces. Shima was a prosperous fishing region, and the Nara Period governors of Shima were responsible for providing annual gifts of fish to the emperor. The chief town of Shima was Toba , although small Shima was often ruled by the Daimyo of larger Ise during the Sengoku Period . |
