Searchlight is a Census-designated Place located in Clark County, Nevada . As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 576.

Searchlight was an important Gold Mining town of southern Nevada in the early part of the 20th Century , but the mines played out after only a few years.


GEOGRAPHY

Searchlight is located at 35°28'6" North, 114°55'1" West (35.468455, -114.916932).

According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 33.9 Km&2 (13.1 Mi&2 ). 33.9 km&2 (13.1 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water.


DEMOGRAPHICS

As of the Census Of , There Were 576 People, 315 Households, And 136 Families Residing In The CDP. The [[population Density was 17.0/km&2 (44.1/mi&2). There were 444 housing units at an average density of 13.1/km&2 (34.0/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 94.97% White , 0.69% African American , 0.69% Native American , 0.17% Asian , 0.17% Pacific Islander , 1.74% from Other Races , and 1.56% from two or more races. 3.65% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
There were 315 households out of which 8.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 34.9% were Married Couples living together, 5.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 56.8% were non-families. 48.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.76 and the average family size was 2.46.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 10.1% under the age of 18, 3.1% from 18 to 24, 20.0% from 25 to 44, 35.8% from 45 to 64, and 31.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 55 years. For every 100 females there were 125.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 131.3 males.
