OSGOOD AT GRINNELL

Osgood's present administrative actions at Grinnell revolve around a strategic plan approved by the trustees in spring 2005. The five year plan's goals include expanding Grinnell's reputation throughout the United States and the world, strengthening the college's academic departments, improving the town of Grinnell, and increasing both alumni giving and tuition revenue.

The current Grinnell administration, doing the Trustees' bidding, is attempting to recruit some wealthier students to stop the College's sharply increasing tuition discount rate. Their efforts thus far have been unsuccessful. Some students feel that this initiative could jeopardize Grinnell's left-wing and socially progressive environment.

Grinnell's campus has undergone much construction and renovation. Though the plans began during the tenure of Pamela Ferguson, many of the projects have occurred under Osgood. World-renowned architect Cesar Pelli has designed several of the recent buildings. There is some concern that the new, modern buildings do not fit with the predominant Victorian architecture that makes up the majority of campus.
