Pulkovo Airport () is an Airport located 16 km south of St. Petersburg , Russia . Originally named Shosseynaya Airport, the construction started in January 1931 , and was completed on June 24 , 1932 , while the first aircraft from Moscow , carrying passenger and mail, landed on the airport at 5:31pm, two and a half hours after the aircraft took off.

Pulkovo Airport, like many other airports in Russia, was used to run Military operations during the World War II . The airport returned to civilian service after the war.

In 1951 , the airport terminal was re-designed to increase the ability of handling larger aircraft. The airport renamed to Pulkovo Airport in April 1973 while a new terminal was opened. And the amount of traffic was increased by 40% - 50% from the 1970s to the 1990s . In the year of 1990, Pulkovo airport recorded a number of 4,837,000 passengers using the airport.

Traffic in Pulkovo Airport continued to grow throughout the 1990s. In 2003, there are a total number of 26,934 aircraft movement recorded.

There are two passenger terminals, one cargo terminal, 98 aircraft stands, and two runways in the airport. Terminal 1 mainly serves flights within Russia, CIS countries and International charter flights while Terminal 2 serves other long-haul international flights.
