Population growth is changing of the amount of population over time. The term is often used informally in place of "population growth rate". Net, or total population growth is a measure of how much the birth rate or natality exceeds the death rate, or mortality. Population growth can also refer to population growth rate, which is the rate at which net population growth changes. When a population is growing less quickly than in the past, then its population growth rate is falling, but the net growth or number of individuals in total may still be rising. Some countries have a negative population growth rate, especially in Eastern Europe .
