Palo Verde is a Census-designated Place located in Imperial County, California . As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 236. GEOGRAPHY Palo Verde is located at 33°25'46" North, 114°43'48" West (33.429419, -114.730094). According to the United States Census Bureau , the CDP has a total area of 1.5 Km&2 (0.6 Mi&2 ). 1.5 km&2 (0.6 mi&2) of it is land and none of it is covered by water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census of 2000, there were 236 people, 130 households, and 60 families residing in the CDP. The Population Density was 154.4/km&2 (401.2/mi&2). There were 218 housing units at an average density of 142.7/km&2 (370.6/mi&2). The racial makeup of the CDP was 78.81% White , 0.85% Black or African American , 0.00% Native American , 0.00% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 14.83% from Other Races , and 5.51% from two or more races. 19.49% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 130 households out of which 16.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 35.4% were Married Couples living together, 6.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 53.8% were non-families. 50.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 33.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 1.82 and the average family size was 2.63. In the CDP the population was spread out with 17.8% under the age of 18, 1.3% from 18 to 24, 19.5% from 25 to 44, 29.2% from 45 to 64, and 32.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 55 years. For every 100 females there were 110.7 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 104.2 males. The median income for a household in the CDP was $12,772, and the median income for a family was $14,333. Males had a median income of $13,281 versus $9,792 for females. The Per Capita Income for the CDP was $7,275. 47.3% of the population and 44.7% of families were below the Poverty Line . 70.7% of those under the age of 18 and 13.3% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
