National Ocean Sciences Bowl




Started in 1998 , this competition has generally been dominated by teams from New England , although teams from other regions have shown great success in recent years. Notable is the sweep of the top spots by the West Coast in 2004, when Mission San Jose High School , Friday Harbor High School , Poudre High School , Incarnate Word Academy, and Santa Monica High School took first through fifth place, respectively.

PRIZES

Although the prizes for placing at the national competition have varied slightly from year to year, the following were the prizes awarded at the 2005 National Ocean Sciences Bowl:
  • 1st Place Prize - Trip to Hawaii ; includes swimming with dolphins

  • 2nd Place Prize - Trip to Bermuda

  • 3rd Place Prize - Trip to Catalina Island

  • 4th Place Prize - Trip to the Great Lakes

  • 5th-8th Place Prizes - Gift certificates for scientific equipment and marine science textbooks
