Mount Usu (有珠山, ''usuzan'') is an active volcano in the Shikotsu-Toya National Park , Hokkaido , Japan . Mt. Usu is 737 m tall, and has erupted four times since 1900: in 1910, 1944-45 (which created Showashinzan ), 1977 and most recently on March 31 , 2000 . To the north lies Tōya-ko , a lake formed by an eruption of Mt. Usu. Mt. Usu and Showashinzan are major tourist attractions in the Shikotsu-Toya National Park. A ropeway on Mt Usu takes visitors to viewing platforms overlooking Showashinzan. |
