]] Mindaugas (approximate and as King (" Karalius ", "кароль") from 1253 . Being a strong duke amongst five established geater dukes he was able to win personal power in the , legendary Voruta (Mindaugas stayed here during iternal war in Lithuania in 1251, but its place is still unknown) or Trakai (Old Trakai). It is only known, that Mindaugas and his wife Morta were crowned by order of Pope Innocent IV , and that for this occasion Catholic church was built. Originally a pagan (as the most of the Balts ), but circa 1252 with Morta he was catholicized by the Bishop of Kulm (now Chełmno ) in the presence of the Master of the Livonian Brothers Of The Sword . A member of the Order named Christian was Consecrate d as the first bishop of Lithuania. This raised an opposition among some of the the Balts gentes, and there was som resistance.. Because of fight for power and strong roots in baltic religion, and disbelief Conversion to Christianity, and after defeat kuršiai upraisal 1260 , for along time there was a belief that Mindaugas has rernounced Christianity ( 1262 , althotugh there is no valid written proof of that. In 1263 September, 12 he was killed (with 2 younger sons) by his Nephew Treniota and Daumantas , duke of Nalšia . Under the usurper Treniota , of strong paganist belief, the country relapsed into Paganism until the Conversion ( 1386 ) of Grand Duke Of Lithuania Jogaila . Only with Gediminas , grand duke from 1316 , did Lithuania's revival as a European power begin. While most of Lithuanian grand dukes from Jogaila onward reigned also as kings of Poland, their titles remained separate, and Mindaugas was the only ''King of Lithuania'', recognized as such by Western European rulers.
