Mary Ann Glendon (born October 7, 1938 Pittsfield , Massachusetts ) J.D. , LL.M. , is the Learned Hand Professor of Law , at Harvard University Law School . She teaches and writes on Bioethics , Comparative Constitutional Law and Human Rights in International Law . She is a notable Pro-life Feminist . She was appointed by '' named Glendon one of the "Fifty Most Influential Women Lawyers in America" in 1998 . In 1995 she was the official Vatican representative to the international 1995 Beijing Conference on Women sponsored by the United Nations . A divorced and remarried Catholic herself, Glendon is currently President of the Roman Catholic Church 's official Pontifical Council for the Social Sciences.
