Information About

Marshal Of The Russian Federation

Marshal of the Russian Federation is the highest rank of the Russian Federation , created in 1991 after the fall and breakup of the Soviet Union . It ranks immediately above the General Of The Army and Admiral Of The Fleet .

The only officer who presently holds the rank is the former Minister Of Defense Igor Sergeyev , who was elevated from the General of the Army of the Military Space Troops . Since Russian Military Ranks system lack a brigade-grade general but has a General Of The Army , a Marshal of the Russian Federation should be considered as a honorary title equivalent to a Field Marshal or General of the Army in other countries, created in the event of a major war or as the result of extreme military accomplishment.

A corresponding naval rank, Fleet Admiral Of The Russian Federation is stated to exist by U.S. Military sources, but Russian regulations contradict this claim. U.S. sources states that a Fleet Admiral of the Russian Federation could be appointed during times of war, and therefore become a rank similar to the Admiral Of The Fleet Of The Soviet Union . At present, however, any Russian Fleet Admiral considered for further promotion in peacetime would likely become a Marshal of the Russian Federation.

The insignia for Marshal of the Russian Federation is similar to the one for the Marshal Of The Soviet Union , with Soviet Coat of Arms replaced by a Russian one.
