; ''Suonatore di viola da mano'', by Marcantonio Raimondi , ca. 1510. It was produced from a lost original painting by Francesco Francia .]] Marcantonio Raimondi (c. 1480 - c. 1534 ) was an Italian Engraver . After studying in Bologna with the Goldsmith and painter Francesco Raibolini , called Francia, Raimondi moved to Venice, where he copied Albrecht Dürer 's works (without Dürer's consent, who sued Raimondi). Later, Raimondi founded a successful engraving school in Rome . At some point he focused on works by Raphael and his circle (such as Giulio Romano ). Around 1524 Raimondi was briefly imprisoned for making erotic engravings, such as the I Modi set. During the Sack Of Rome in 1527 he ransomed himself from the Spaniards.
