The ''London Review'' was founded in 1979 by former editors of the '' Times Literary Supplement '', during the year-long lock-out at ''The Times''. For its first six months, it appeared as an insert in the '' New York Review Of Books ''. In May 1980, the ''London Review'' became an independent publication with a distinctly radical editorial orientation. The ''London Review'''s first editor was Karl Miller ; the current editor is Mary-Kay Wilmers . As of January 2004 , its circulation was 42,700.
