There are no counties in Alaska. Political subdivisions below the state level are known as boroughs. Administrative centers are called '''borough seats.'''
Large portions of Alaska are not part of any of the above boroughs. These areas are known collectively as the " Unorganized Borough ," which is further divided into census areas. Although separate municipal governments exist within the Unorganized Borough, the borough itself is governed directly by the state and does not have a seat of its own. |
