Kerteminde Municipality




The main town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Kerteminde .

Neighboring municipalities are Ullerslev to the southeast, and Otterup , Munkebo and Langeskov to the west. The municipality is located on a peninsula, and is therefore surrounded by water on three sides:

A segment of the Great Belt flows through the town of Kerteminde, and helps define part of its western border with neighboring Otterup municipality.

Ferry service connects the municipality to the island of Romsø from the harbour in the town of Kerteminde.

The municipality was created in 1970 as the result of a ''kommunalreform'' ("Municipality Reform") that merged a number of existing parishes:
  • Dalby Parish

  • Drigstrup Parish

  • Kerteminde Parish

  • Kølstrup Parish

  • Mesinge Parish

  • Revninge Parish

  • Rynkeby Parish

  • Stubberup Parish

  • Viby Parish


By January 1 , 2007 Kerteminde municipality will, as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipality Reform" Of 2007) , be merged with existing Munkebo and Langeskov municipalities to form an enlarged Kerteminde municipality. This will create a municipality with an area of 203 Km&2 and a total population of 23,071 (2005). The municipality will belong to the new Region Syddanmark ("South Denmark Region").
