Kalyani is a Raga in the Carnatic music of South India . In South Indian weddings this is a very prominently played raga. The word kalyani means 'she who causes auspicious things'. Kalyani, today called Basavakalyana in Karnataka state, was initially capital of the Kalyani Chalukyas who ruled from 973-1195AD. Later it came under the "Hyderabad Kingdom" after 14th century. After independence from the British, this area came under " Hyderabad - Karnataka ". It was ruled by a Muslim Nizam Dynasty for Centuries from approximately 14th century AD, till the formation of India and Pakistan. When the Indian Government took over all Princely States. Kalyani has its own history, culture. The Rulers of this state had their own currency, Stamps and system of governance in the pre partion era. The last living member of this dynasty is Mr. Syed Mohammad Hilal Uddin Hussain Khan. Kalyani is also a town in the Nadia District of West Bengal . |
