José Martí International Airport in Havana , Cuba , is Cuba's main international and domestic getaway. It is a hub for Cubana De Aviacion and Aerogaviota , also Aero Caribbean . The airport is named for Cuban patriot and poet José Martí .

There are currently four terminals in use at the airport. Terminal 1 serves domestic Cubana flights. Terminal 2 serves Corsair and Miami charters. Terminal 3, the modern main terminal, serves most traffic and was built with Canadian assistance. Terminal 5 serves Aerocaribbean and some charters. Note, though, that terminal 4 has not yet been built.

Because of the United States Embargo Against Cuba , no airlines from the United States are permitted to land there regularly, and so the regular flights from Miami are designated as charters. However, on special occasions, airlines such as United Airlines , Delta Air Lines and Continental Airlines have transported passengers from Miami to Havana . Because of Cuba's relationship with the Soviet Union , the airport during the 1970 s and 1980 s enjoyed the presence of many Eastern Bloc airline companies.
