The Inn District ( German ''Innviertel'') is an Austria n region southeast of the Inn River , belonging to Upper Austria and bordering Bavaria .

The Inn District belonged to Bavaria until 1777 . In consequence of the War Of The Bavarian Succession it was ceded to Austria . It returned to Bavaria in 1809 and again was ceded to Austria in 1816.

Towns in the Inn District include Schärding , Ried Im Innkreis and Braunau Am Inn . Braunau, located on the Inn River and the border to Bavaria, is the place where Adolf Hitler was born.
