It is the largest city inhabited by the Ijebus , a sub-group of the Yoruba ethnic group who speak the Ijebu dialect of Yoruba. The ruler of Ijebu Ode is the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Adetona. The city is located 110 km by road north-east of Lagos , within 100 km of the Atlantic Ocean in the eastern part of Ogun State and possesses a warm tropical climate. Ijebu Ode has a local television station affiliated with the government NTA network. Ijebu Ode is the trade center for a farming region. Yams , Cassava , Grain , and Tobacco are grown. Cotton is grown and used to weave cloth. Right by the side of Ijebu ode are other little neighbouring towns and villages. They are mostly referred to as "this way to", some of which include Odo-Agamegi , Ogbo, Italupe, Ososa, Okelamuren, Abapawa, Erunwon, Isonyin , Idowa, Atiba amongst others. |
