The Hill of the Star ( of the Teotihuacan o culture, located under a Roman Catholic religious site in the Iztapalapa district of Mexico City that was discovered on April 5 , 2006 . The 60-foot tall pyramid was originally carved from the hillside in 500 , some 1,000 years before the Spanish Conquest Of Mexico . It was abandoned in about 800 . It measures 500 feet on each side. Ceramic fragments and cermonial structures convinced archaeologist Miriam Advincula to begin mapping the area in 2004 .1

Archaeologist Jesús Sánchez said, "When they first saw us digging there, the local people just couldn't believe there was a pyramid. It was only when the slopes and shapes of the pyramid, the floors with Altar s were found, that they finally believed us." Noting the important Holy Week celebrations on the site, he said "Both the pre-Hispanic structure and the Holy Week rituals are part of our cultural legacy, so we have to look for a way to protect both cultural values."

Archeologists will fill in the pits that led them to the pyramid to preserve the pyramid.
