Henry Carr (born November 27 , 1942 in Detroit , Michigan ) is a former American Athlete , winner of two gold medals at the 1964 Summer Olympics . BIOGRAPHY Born in Detroit, Michigan , Carr was one of the greatest Long Sprinters during the early 1960s . He was an outstanding high school sprinter in Detroit, before also starring at Arizona State University . While competing for the Sun Devils , he won or tied for three national titles, and set World Record s in the 200 M , 220 Yd (201 m) and 4 x 440 m Relay . He won the , Carr ran even faster, hitting a world record 20.2 for 220 yd (201 m). It was at the 1964 Olympics, however, where Carr achieved his greatest fame, winning the 200 m and anchoring the winning 4 x 400 meters relay (world record 3:00.7). He was top ranked in the world in the 200 m in 1963 and 1964. After college, he played professional football for three seasons for the New York Giants , but not very successfully. EXTERNAL LINKS |
