''For earlier currency of Guyana, see British Guiana Guilder .'' The Guyanese dollar was introduced when Guyana became independent in 1966, replacing the East Caribbean Dollar at par. Coins have been issued in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents and 1, 5 and 10 dollars.
