Frederick Augustus I (or III) of Saxony ( December 23 , 1750 - May 5 , 1827 ). He succeeded his father, Frederick Christian , in December 1763 , as Elector Frederick Augustus III of Saxony (from the House Of Wettin ). For the first 5 years of his reign, his mother Dowager Electress Maria Antonia was Regent . In 1805, shortly before the abolition of the Holy Roman Empire in 1806 , he became '''King of Saxony''' as Frederick Augustus I. Frederick Augustus I was also Duke of the Duchy Of Warsaw 1807 - 1815 ) (as ''Fryderyk August I''). He was the grandson of polish king Augustus III Of Poland . In 1769, he married Amalie Countess Palatine of the Rhine von Zweibrücken-Birkenfeld and had a daughter, Princess Maria Augusta of Saxony (1782-1863). His alliance with Napoleon resulted in defeat in 1813. The country was occupied by Russia , and only restored to full sovereignty after a landswap between Russia, Prussia and Saxony, resulting in the loss of two-thirds of the country's territory. He was succeeded as King of Saxony by his younger brother Anthony Clement .
