GEOGRAPHY According to the United States Census Bureau , the town has a total area of 96.9 Km&2 (37.4 Mi&2 ). 76.7 km&2 (29.6 mi&2) of it is land and 20.2 km&2 (7.8 mi&2) of it is water. The total area is 20.85% water. DEMOGRAPHICS As of the Census 2 of 2000, there were 10,310 people, 3,948 households, and 2,838 families residing in the town. The Population Density was 134.4/km&2 (348.1/mi&2). There were 4,169 housing units at an average density of 54.3/km&2 (140.8/mi&2). The racial makeup of the town was 97.75% White , 0.24% African American , 0.12% Native American , 1.15% Asian , 0.00% Pacific Islander , 0.17% from Other Races , and 0.56% from two or more races. 0.48% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 3,948 households out of which 37.1% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.7% were Married Couples living together, 5.9% had a female householder with no husband present, and 28.1% were non-families. 22.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.56 and the average family size was 3.04. In the town the population was spread out with 27.3% under the age of 18, 3.1% from 18 to 24, 28.0% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 41 years. For every 100 females there were 91.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.9 males. The median income for a household in the town was $66,855, and the median income for a family was $87,304. Males had a median income of $54,545 versus $35,258 for females. The Per Capita Income for the town was $36,716. 3.7% of the population and 1.8% of families were below the Poverty Line . 3.2% of those under the age of 18 and 4.7% of those 65 and older were living below the poverty line.
