Emeric Of Hungary




Emeric (– 1204 ), who ruled from 1196 to 1204. He was the son and heir of Béla III by his queen, Agnes , daughter of Raynald Of Châtillon .

Emeric was betrothed firstly to Agnes, the daughter of Frederick I, Holy Roman Emperor , but her premature death in 1184 prevented their marriage. Instead Emeric married Constance , the daughter of King Alfonso II Of Aragon . Their only child, László , was born in 1201 and crowned as co-king in 1204 . When Emeric died later that year, his infant son briefly became king but died in 1205. Emeric's brother, András , became king. His wife, Constance, fled to Vienna and eventually married Frederick II, Holy Roman Emperor .
