Eight Deer Jaguar Claw




Eight Deer Jaguar Claw was a powerful Mixtec ruler in 11th century Oaxaca referred to in the 13th century deerskin manuscript Codex Zouche-Nuttall . His surname is alternatively translated ''Tiger-Claw'' and ''Ocelot-Claw''.

Born in Tilantongo , his reign according to some sources, lasted from 1030 until his death in 1115 . Almost always pictured wearing a Jaguar helmet, he supported the Toltec s in their attempts at expansionism, and was thus gifted a Jade noseplug.
