is a
Constituency represented in the
House Of Commons of the
Parliament Of The United Kingdom . It elects one
Member Of Parliament (MP) by the
First Past The Post system of election.
The constituency covers the eastern section of the county of
Surrey , including the entirity of the
Tandridge district and the town of
Horley , which is located in the
Reigate And Banstead district.
The
Boundary Commission has proposed no boundary changes for this constituency in the boundary review due before the next election.
The constituency was first created in the
1832 Reform Act s with two MPs, however it was split up into various divisions in
1885 . In
1918 the constituency was re-established, but this time with only one MP, covering a smaller area to the south of
Croydon along the
Kent border down to
Sussex .
In 1950, Surrey East lost
Addington parish on the fringe of Croydon into the newly-formed
Croydon South seat and its southern half to
Reigate constituency. In 1974, much of the constituency became the seat of
Croydon South when
Purley and
Coulsdon became part if the
London Borough Of Croydon , with Surrey East taking in much of the area to the south that had been in Reigate since 1950. Its MP until 1974,
William Clark , won the new Croydon South in that year's February election.
In all its incarnations, the seat has been
Conservative -held since its creation.

This constituency underwent boundary changes between the 1992 and 1997 general elections and thus change in share of vote is based on a notional calculation.
