East Capitol Street originally began at First Street, N.E./S.E. However, in 2005, the block between First and Second Streets was closed for security reasons, and the construction of the new Capitol visitor center. The first 15 blocks of East Capitol Street make up the heart of Washington's prestigious Capitol Hill neighborhood and therefore East Capitol is home to some of the priciest Real Estate in the entire city.
