Dodge was on the ballot in one state in 2000, winning 208 votes. This poor showing and allegations of financial mismanagement caused a rift in the Prohibition party. The pro-Dodge faction of the party nominated Dodge as their 2004 candidate. The anti-Dodge faction claimed that Dodge was nominated in a convention held in Dodge's living room. The anti-Dodge faction gained control of the Prohibition party in 2003 and they declared that Dodge was illegally nominated. Their ticket had Gene Amondson on the ballot. Dodge filed for candidacy in Colorado. The anti-Dodge faction threatened a lawsuit, but they accepted the offer of the Concerns of People Party where Amondson would be on the ballot under their line. This avoided a lawsuit between the two factions of the party
