Wechsler studied with many of the leading psychologists of the day, including E. L. Thorndike , J. M. Cattell , and R. S. Woodworth. He also studied psychoanalysis with Anna Freud ( Sigmund Freud 's daughter). Known today for his "IQ" tests, he also had a complex and subtle understanding of human intelligence: he believed in the essential unity of intelligence and viewed the different tasks on the WAIS and WISC as various indices of the same capacity, rather than as separate "intelligences."

David Wechsler is also the name of a Civil Servant, who has been Chief Executive of the London Borough of Croydon since 1987.
