Information About

Dani Rodrik

Rodrik was coauthor of a 2003 paper on "When Economic Reform Goes Wrong: Cashews in Mozambique" {Link without Title} , which became a microcosm of the globalization debate. It analyzed the effects of Mozambique liberalizing its Cashew industry, partly because of pressure from the World Bank . Income from cashew exports increased, although thousands of employees were laid off and several plants closed, providing ammunition to both sides of the debate. The paper argues that "in all likelihood... the aggregate static gains produced by the liberalization were a wash."
